  • Over the Rainbow: Sourdough Bread Workshop

    12:00pm – 2:00pm

"Love doesn't just sit there, like a stone; it has to be made, like bread, remade all the time, made new." - Ursula Le Guin

Expert bakers from Eadha Sourdough Bakery will be leading us through a two-hour hands on workshop that gets you started on the basics of sourdough bread baking at home. The workshop includes take-home handout & recipe, proofing basket, tea towel, dough scraper, starter, and your first loaf to bake at home! Sourdough bread is made with sourdough "starter", a fermented probiotic mixture of flour and water. This healthy bacteria is what gives sourdough bread its trademark tangy flavour! Sourdough starters are an amazing tool to use to care for the mircobiome of your gastrointestinal system! Add starter to your breads, muffins, pancakes, cookies, pizza dough, anything! Owning and caring for a starter requires a bit of tender loving care! Sourdough starters must be fed and mixed every day or every other day to ensure the bacteria gets moving and fermenting! The amazing folks at Eadha will be teaching us the best tips and tricks for caring for and baking with sourdough starters and give our guts some much needed love! We will be meeting at Rainbow's home of 545 Broadway to run the workshop! Participants will take their loaf of dough home at the end of the afternoon to bake in your own kitchen.
